On first glance, I thought this was going to be one of those boring business type books. However, I can now say that after finishing this book I was very, very wrong.
This book not only breaks down how to handle, break down, assess and monitor emotions with yourself, other people and across relationships but arms you with the tools which will help you to have a better personal and professional life overall. I have learned alot from one read of this book and will definitely be reading it again. This books works excellent as an introduction to emotional intelligence. However, it is more of a manual step-by-step on how to improve your score. Rather than a scientific approach.
It is outstanding in giving structural methods of increasing your scores and all aspects of EI. You take a test when you first start the book and then you take the test after six months. There are lots of tidbits on how to self manage and I used many of them with clients.
This book is for people who want to manage themselves and become the best version of themselves that they can be. If you do not have any emotional intelligence to begin with, it will be to big a stretch.
This is not a quick fix so it is not for everyone. If you are willing to put in the work, you will definitely make progress with the tools given. Short, easy to read but full of some great information. Then a strategy needs to be created to learn and, importantly, to maintain the newly acquired skill s.
